SFMOMA: Photography: Art or Craft?- Ansel Adams and Georgia O’Keefe

The Dawn Thomas Team likes to bring you fun activities around the Silicon Valley and today we have: SFMOMA: Photography: Art or Craft?

“Join SFMOMA and the Los Altos Library for an SFMOMA docent presentation that traces photography back to its origins and looks at its many roles in modern art.  The talk examines the evolving understanding of photography; from a scientific recording to an imitation of painting.

About the subject:
Photography: Art of Craft traces photography back to its origins and looks at its many roles in modern art. The talk examines the evolving understanding of photography — from a scientific recording to an imitation of painting to the more contemporary characterization as an art object. The talk highlights the influence of early photographers, the role of California and the lure of the Western landscape. We also explore the impact of a chance meeting in the desert between Ansel Adams and Georgia O’Keefe that led to the formation of SFMOMA’s photography collection – recognized as one of the most extensive and impressive in any modern art museum.”

When: Monday, February 10, 2014 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Where: Los Altos Public Library, 13 S San Antonio Rd., Los Altos, CA 94024
